The Importance Of Angel To The X-Men Mythos

Of all my favourite groups in the Marvel Universe, The X-Men are at the top of the list. With so many different incarnations it can be easy to forget about the original line up consisting of Cyclops, Beast, Jean Grey, Iceman and Angel. They debuted in 1968 and each was defined by a specific power. But the one who seems to receive the least amount of consideration is Angel, AKA Warren Worthington III. With the power of flight his abilities might seem less flashy compared to others, but he’s one of the most interesting characters in comics and I’ll explain why.

Guest Blog: Idealism And The Greatcoats by Jamie Ryder

I’ve written a guest post about idealism in fantasy books over at Mightythorjrs. I haven’t seen the spirit of idealism captured more perfectly than in Sebastien De Castell’s Greatcoat series. Read the books. Seriously.

100 Followers And A Personal Admission

Just over two weeks ago I started this blog and the reception has been unlike anything I imagined. I’ve hit 100 followers and been nominated for two blogging awards. To thank everyone for the support I’ve decided to share something deeply personal about myself as a way of really understanding me. I’ve suffered from anxiety and low self-esteem for the past ten years or so. It’s made it hard for me to meet new people, believe in myself and to form a lasting relationship with someone.

On The Warpath With James Proudstar

Comics have a long history of representing characters of different origins, and many aren’t as well known as they should be. One of my favourites is Warpath of The X-Men. James Proudstar is an Apache, and one of the few Native American superheroes. He originally blamed The X-Men for the death of his brother John before becoming part of the team.

Red Hood And The Outlaws #6 Review

“I didn’t ask you to be Robin because I wanted someone perfect. I wanted someone who can do their best. Who can learn from their mistakes. Someone who makes me a better person just by being with them.” – Batman

Today, I’m reviewing my favourite comic with Red Hood And The Outlaws #6, written by Scott Lobdell. For those who haven’t been following the series, Jason Todd has been working to bring down Black Mask. In the last issue, Black Mask took control of Bizarro by linking their minds together with a virus. Artemis is on the scene and she’s battling with Bizzaro while Jason is fighting Black Mask.

Why Vegeta Is Better Than Goku

Growing up in the 90s I remember cartoons being a massive part of my childhood. Cartoon Network, Toonami, Disney and Nickelodeon were the only channels I paid attention to. One of the shows that stood out the most was Dragon Ball Z. Goku was the big, powerful hero who saved the day. But I always found Vegeta far more entertaining, and I’m going to examine why he is the better character in my opinion.

How Augmented Reality Is Taking Over The World

Since the introduction of Pokémon Go, the app has been downloaded over 75 million times across iOS and Android and earned the record of being most downloaded app during a launch week. The app owes its success to a mix of nostalgia, ease of use and addictive incentives, e.g. levelling up as you capture and evolve more Pokémon.

The Pop Culture Playlist: Red Hood

As The Pop Culture Playlist was so well received last week, I’m going to turn it into a regular segment. This week, I’m putting the spotlight on Red Hood with a playlist that tells the story of his relationship with Batman and how he’ll always do what he thinks is right.

Why Podcasts Are Making All The Noise

Ten years ago, the radio industry was on the decline, with marketers focused on engaging their customers with text, bright colours and eye-catching graphics. Radio hosts seemed to be clinging to an outdated medium while everyone was glued to a screen, but all that has changed with the resurgence of podcasts. Where once they were hard to find and follow, podcasts have been on the rise for the past few years, thanks to the introduction of Apple’s podcast app in 2012 and the full time integration into iOS in 2015.

Artemis And The Art Of Being An Amazon

Comics have never lacked for kick ass women, with Wonder Woman being an example of feminine beauty and strength. But Diana isn’t the only Amazon to stand tall. Artemis of Bana-Mighdall is a character with a rich history. Born into a seperate tribe of Amazons who migrated to Egypt, Artemis has been a rival and friend to Diana, and she deserves to share the spotlight.
