6 Inspirational Comic Quotes That Can Help You Achieve Your Goals

Everyone has faced some kind of struggle in their life. Whether it’s to do with family, a job, or a relationship, a situation can grow beyond your control and you may be left feeling upset. How you deal with those situations going forward is what matters the most. Comics are a wonderful source of positive inspiration. They feature relatable characters who battle with world changing events. Superheroes and supervillains get knocked down and get back up. They find a way to overcome adversity.

I’ve featured six of my favourite quotes from characters who have faced hardship and managed to come out stronger. They are the kind of quotes that resonate and remind us why we need to stay true to ourselves.

Captain America

“Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — “No, you move.”

There’s no doubt in my mind that Captain America is the poster boy for what a superhero should be: strong, courageous, selfless and compassionate. This quote signifies everything that I like about Steve Rogers and why he is the leader of The Avengers. During the first superhero Civil War, Cap found himself at odds with his friends because he refused to sign the government’s superhuman registration act. Everyone told him it was he needed to sign, but he chose to stand up for the right to make his own choice.

Saying no can be difficult, especially when there is pressure from your friends and family. Remember that you have the choice to refuse something. If an action doesn’t fit with your beliefs then don’t be afraid to say no.

Spider-Man

“We’re not just our failures. As much as they hurt, we learn from them. Then we go out there and do our best to make up for them– Even though we never will. We save people. We save as many as we can to make up for the ones we couldn’t. That’s all we do.”

When it comes to representing everyday people, Spider-Man is an ideal character. The web-slinger has faced a tremendous amount of heartbreak in his life and he continues to help people. His quote is a strong reminder that you are more than your failures. You might stumble, you might fall down, but you can always stand up again.

Magneto

“The thing none of you will ever understand is that there are no sides. There are no heroes or villains. There’s just what I want and how I’ll get it.”

Magneto is no stranger to dealing with emotional upheaval. His background as a Holocaust survivor exposed him to the worst of what humanity is capable of. Yet Magneto found a purpose for himself. He turned his pain into a reason to fight and to stop mutants from suffering the same fate.

I find this quote important from a self-care perspective. Life is complicated and you should never lose sight of what you want to achieve. Being selfish isn’t the same as being thoughtless. It’s okay to make time for yourself and put your own needs first.

Captain Marvel

“You have no idea what a real leader is. A leader has to project confidence. Fight for what she believes in. But never stop questioning, wondering how to be better. You take in everything… and make your call. You thought isolating me would make me weaker? Buddy, you don’t know me too well. All my life I’ve had to rely on myself, trust my instincts and convictions when others doubted me, and be prepared to back them up. You didn’t hurt me with what you did. You gave me what I needed to win.”

Carol Danvers has made a career out of fighting tooth and nail to achieve success. As Captain Marvel, she’s a representation of power and authority. She’s managed to get where she is by relying on her instincts, which is relatable for anyone who has fought to make a name for themselves.

I think the quote is inspirational for anyone in a leadership position. Being responsible for other people can be tough. Leaders doubt themselves as much as the next person. But a strong leader continues to find ways to improve, otherwise complacency sets in.

Wolverine

“The key isn’t winning or losing. It’s making the attempt. I may never be what I ought to be, want to be, but how will I know unless I try? Sure, it’s scary, but what’s the alternative? Stagnation. A safer, more terrible form of death. Not of the body, but of the spirit. An animal knows what it is, and accepts it. A man may know what he is, but he questions. He dreams. He strives. Changes. Grows.”

Wolverine has struggled all of his life to reconcile the man he wants to be with the animal that kills to survive. This quote comes from Chris Claremont’s critically acclaimed Japan series. It involves Logan trying to be a better person for the love of his life, Mariko Yashida.

It’s my favourite quote because it describes my personal outlook. In order to move forward in life, you need to better yourself. It doesn’t matter if you fail. As long as you make the attempt, then you’re making the decision to grow. I couldn’t think of anything worse than being stuck in place and not working towards a goal. Wolverine’s quote reminds me to stay focused even in the most difficult circumstances.

Storm

“I am a woman, a mutant, a thief, an X-Men, a lover, a wife, a queen. I am all these things. I am Storm, and for me, there are no such things as limits.”

Storm is another strong female superhero who provides inspiration. She started out with nothing and rose to become the Queen of Wakanda. She dedicated her life to helping people who suffered with similar experiences. Storm’s quote is a reminder that we shouldn’t define ourselves as one thing. There are no limits to what you can achieve. All it takes is willpower, surrounding yourself with the right people and knowing when to accept help.
