Comic Cover Corner: Fallen Son #1

Comic Cover Corner puts the spotlight on a unique comic cover and the story that it tells. Captain America has been involved in some of the most emotional stories that Marvel has produced. So, when the First Avenger was tragically killed during The Fallen Son arc, it should come as no surprise that the covers were striking.

Fallen Son #1, drawn by Leinil Yu, features Wolverine looking ready to hunt down the people responsible for Cap’s death. Continue reading “Comic Cover Corner: Fallen Son #1”

Invaders: War Ghosts Review: A Phenomenal WW2 Story That Redefines The Mythology Of Namor The Sub-Mariner

World War II has inspired some of the most thought-provoking stories in popular culture, and the time period has served as a memorable backdrop in the Marvel Universe. In my opinion, the best World War II comic stories are told through the lens of the Invaders, a team made up of Captain America, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Winter Soldier and Jim Hammond, the Original Human Torch.

All four men were bonded by a sense of camaraderie and necessity that survived until the modern day. Namor’s relationship with the other Invaders is particularly interesting because they are among the few people he considers true friends. In War Ghosts, Chip Zdarsky not only redefines Namor’s dynamic with the team, he also changes the mythology of the Sub-Mariner for the better. Comic Kitchen: Captain America

Comic Kitchen is a segment that prepares a three course menu around a pop culture character. This edition is a special one because it marks the first time I’ve collaborated with another blogger to bring a menu to life. I worked with Manchester based Rosaleen Marmion, who runs a lifestyle and parenting website. Together we came up with a three-course meal for Captain America. Given that Cap is a supersoldier, I decided on a high protein and carb based menu. The overall theme taps into Steve Rogers’ story as a kid from New York who grew up to be one of the greatest superheroes of all time.

The Comic Vault is examining what Captain America represents and how he can be an inspiration to the people around him.
