Bluebirds

When John Harris saw the swastika, his hand clenched until the knuckles turned white. He imagined some jumped-up little gobshite coming here in the dead of night, giggling while he drew this monstrosity. The sheer disrespect made his teeth grate. Salford Lads Club used to be a place of hope. Windows were now cracked or faded and the brick work was rotting. The painted roses that once hung proudly above the door were chipped away. The Dangerous Building sign completed a tarnished picture of childhood memories. A place of gymnasiums in the evening and choirs in the morning. Knitted scarves and free meals at Christmas. Eighty years of breaking his back and he’d returned to a miscreant paradise. John gripped the railings, took a breath and turned away. Continue reading “Bluebirds”

Dissecting The Complexity Of Gambit And Rogue’s Relationship To See What Makes Them A Relatable Couple

Valentine’s Day is marked as a special day for couples and it got me thinking about the variety of comic couples that I’ve grown up reading about over the years. One of the most realistic has to be the relationship between Gambit and Rogue because of the journey they’ve been on together. The two X-Men have the perfect definition of an on-again, off-again relationship, yet they’ve both grown and matured as characters. How Big Barda Breaks The Stereotypes Of Marriage

During the 1960s and 1970s, comics were full of stereotypes, such as damsels in distress. When Jack Kirby created his Fourth World concept for DC, a character that went against stereotype was Big Barda. The reversal of a traditional relationship was unheard of at the time, which made Barda stand out even more. The Comic Vault is taking a look into Barda’s history and what makes her such an awesome character.

A common trait that binds these women is that they die tragically for being close to him. Some have survived, but their relationship with Logan has never been the same after. But out of all of them, who can be considered Wolverine’s true love? Here I examine some of the women he’s loved and lost and give my opinion on who holds that place in his heart.

Gilead

Waves lapped at the shore while rain fell from a slate grey sky. Half of Brighton was still asleep. Niamh found she preferred the quiet. She wandered down the beach, hands in the pockets of her grey satin overcoat, her shoulders hunched against the cold. The salt spray in her face was a bitter reminder of days long past. She owed it to herself to make the walk, to hold on to the good it would do. Wind swept through her chestnut hair as she strolled along the shore, pebbles crunching beneath her feet.
