Fatherhood is one of life’s most profound experiences, especially for young dads. It requires a lot of strength to raise a child at an age where you might still be figuring out who you want to be. The pressure to provide for a family isn’t easy, but you’re not the only one who has struggled with being a parent.
Roy Harper is a prime example of a young father that battled to find his place. Over the years, Roy has struggled with addiction, self-loathing and regret. In addition to balancing his life as a superhero, he’s also needed to take care of his daughter Lian. His daughter inspired him to become a better man, which is why he can encourage other young dads to step up and be there for their children.

Green Arrow is one of those superheroes that people find it easy to connect with because of his beliefs. As someone who stands up for the little guy, Oliver Queen has dedicated his resources to making the world a better place with a bow and arrow. But it took him a long time to become the man he is, as Queen had to learn how to survive on his own two feet before becoming Green Arrow. Ollie’s transformation from frivolous playboy to hardened hunter is chronicled in Andy Diggle’s Green Arrow: Year One. The graphic novel contains themes of isolation, manhood, slavery and the power of nature against urbanisation.

Comics can be a valuable source of commentary on political issues, and a character who represents a liberal viewpoint is Green Arrow. Oliver Queen has established a reputation of standing up for the little guy, with various stories delving into his political worldview. One of the best arcs I’ve read that deals with political fallout is Green Arrow: Crawling Through The Wreckage. Written by Judd Winick, the graphic novel involves Green Arrow becoming the Mayor of Star City to make his home a more socially conscious place to live.

As a writer, I’m always looking to combine my interests together and after reading a local restaurant and culture magazine by Manchester Finest, it’s inspired me to write about comics and food. Everyone loves food. It brings people together, gives them the opportunity to discover new meals and step outside their comfort zone. Superheroes and supervillains need to eat as well and there are plenty of characters who are sensational chefs. With that said, here are four of the most talented male comic chefs.

Becoming a success in the business world can be tricky, especially when everyone is fighting to establish themselves in a similar market. The world of comics has its fair share of savvy business owners, such as Bruce Wayne and Warren Worthington. Yet they were born into their fortunes and had money to fall back on. Being a self-made entrepreneur takes determination, bravery, intelligence and a limitless sense of self-belief. But it is possible and here are five comic characters who earned their fortunes through hard work and never settling for anything less than what they’re worth.

There are many illnesses with stigmas attached to them, and HIV is one of the most prolific. For someone who suffers with it, they might feel a sense of shame. But you aren’t alone and the wonderful thing about comics is they hold up a mirror to society and give people hope. Mia Dearden, the second Speedy, is the most prominent HIV-positive superhero, and her story is an example of how a person should never stop fighting.

There can never be enough recognition for strong female characters, and Black Canary is high on the list. Often paired with Green Arrow, Dinah Lance is more than capable of standing apart. She’s been a leader of the Justice League Of America and the field commander for the Birds of Prey, a team consisting of herself, Oracle, Huntress and Lady Blackhawk. She’s a prodigious martial artist and has the power of her ‘Canary Cry,’ a high powered sonic scream that can damage organic and inorganic material.
