How The Power Of Cosplay Can Bring A Family Together

Comic cons are some of the best places to meet people who are passionate about pop culture. This appreciation extends to cosplaying. Dressing up as a different character offers a chance to be creative. I’ve spoken about how cosplay can be good for mental health, and something I became aware of when attending the 2018 Manchester Comic Con was how cosplay can bring people of all ages together. More importantly, cosplay has the power to bring families together and create a welcoming environment.

Guest Blog: Anger Management With The Hulk

Anger management is the common name taken by a broad variety of techniques that help deal with anger. Violence, aggressiveness and rage are common traits or symptoms of today’s society. Anger is a basic emotion that triggers upon danger, either in real, physical hazards or with inner, psychological threats. And no one represents the pain of anger better than the Hulk, arguably the most most powerful Avenger.

Making A Case For D-List Superheroes And Villains

It’s a great time to be a comic book nerd. Due to the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, comics have become the in thing and audiences have been introduced to a host of superheroes. Everyone’s heard of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, A-list characters who’ve carried franchises in comic and movie form.

Yet there are still so many characters that people aren’t familiar with, so called ‘D-List’ superheroes and villains who aren’t taken seriously. They can be the kind of characters invented for comic relief or used as cannon fodder in stories e.g. Booster Gold and Bob, Agent of Hydra. But I’d argue that a D-Lister is only limited by the imagination of the writer. In the right hands, an obscure character can reach the same level as Batman and I’m going to explain how that happens.

What Makes Captain America The Heart Of The Avengers?

The Avengers are one of the most important superhero teams in the world, with each member fulfilling a specific purpose. Thor provides the strength, Iron Man provides financial backing and scientific expertise. Yet the team wouldn’t be the same without Captain America. Some people might consider the character bland compared to other superheroes, but in my opinion Steve Rogers represents more than having a cool set of powers. The Comic Vault is examining what Captain America represents and how he can be an inspiration to the people around him.

How Rankorr Can Be Used As A Metaphor For The Positivity Of Anger Management

On the emotional spectrum, anger is a common reaction felt by everyone at some point in their life. It could be triggered by something small or large. In certain situations, anger is justified, while other times it can simply be the result of an overreaction. Anger management can be difficult for some and when I think of how emotions are dealt with in comics, the best representation is found in the Lanterns Corps. Rage is represented by the Red Lanterns Corps, with the group being made up of individuals who are prone to losing control.

An exception in the Red Lanterns is Rankorr, due to him being able to control his rage and channel it more constructively. As a character, Rankorr is intriguing because he can be used as a metaphor for anger management. The Comic Vault is looking into the character’s history to understand what makes him different to other Red Lanterns.

Would The World Be A Better Place If We Lived Like Starfire?

It could be argued that in modern society we’ve grown used to hiding our emotions. Whether it’s in the work place or in a social situation, we may not necessarily say what we feel. This could be because we want to appear strong in the eyes of another, or we don’t want to hurt someone else’s feelings. A comic character who’s never had trouble expressing herself is Starfire, and I believe there’s something to be learned from her approach to life. What would society be like if we could fully express ourselves?
